Dr. Zhaoxue Lu

Dr. Zhaoxue Lu brings over 30 years of clinical and academic experience to his practice. He graduated from the highly acclaimed Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1994 and his Master’s degree in TCM Orthopedics and Traumatology in 1997. He subsequently completed his Doctoral degree in Internal Medicine with a specialization in endocrinology.

Prior to relocating to the United States in 2001 to join the faculty of U.S. acupuncture institutions, Dr. Lu served as Assistant Professor and Chief Staff Physician at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and its affiliated hospital, practicing as an orthopedic surgeon, internist, herbalist, and acupuncturist. For 20 years, he served as Chair of Oriental Medicine and Associate Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) until its closure in August 2024. During his tenure, he taught doctoral-level courses in orthopedics, pain management, and endocrinology—focusing on diabetes and thyroid disorders—while supervising clinical practice in the doctoral degree programs.

In addition to educating future practitioners, Dr. Lu is a pioneer in integrating acupuncture into hospital settings. He serves as an Assistant Professor at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and has provided clinical care at the OHSU Family Medicine clinic since 2007, regularly hosting OHSU medical students and resident physicians for clinical observation. Additionally, from 2014 to 2022, he held hospital privileges at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, where he provided direct inpatient care.

An active researcher and author published in both English and Chinese, Dr. Lu frequently collaborates with OHSU and other research institutions. From 2012 to 2014, he served as one of two Oregon research acupuncturists on the Phase III clinical trial titled “Randomized Blinded Sham- and Waitlist-Controlled Trial of Acupuncture for Joint Symptoms Related to Aromatase Inhibitors in Women with Early Stage Breast Cancer,” led by Columbia University and funded by SWOG S1200.

Dr. Lu possesses extensive expertise in pain management and holds diplomate status and membership with the American Academy of Pain Management. Drawing upon his comprehensive foundation in orthopedics and endocrinology, he seamlessly integrates Western medical knowledge with Traditional Chinese Medicine evaluation and treatment. He has remarkable experience and success in treating:

  • Musculoskeletal pain, joint disorders, and sports injuries
  • Endocrine and metabolic conditions, including diabetes, diabetic complications, thyroid disorders, insulin resistance, and weight management
  • Neurological disorders, including headaches, migraines, and post-stroke rehabilitation

Dr. Zhang earned her Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) in 2010. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in TCM in 1995 and her Master’s degree specializing in TCM ENT in 2000 at the acclaimed Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Complementing her clinical work, Dr. Zhang integrates the art of Daoyin movement therapies—including Tai Chi, Qigong, and Baduanjin (Eight Silk Brocades). Having previously taught these integrative practices at the Legacy Comprehensive Cancer Center and the University of Portland, she draws on her daily practice to bring revitalizing energy and holistic wellness to her patients.

Dr. Zhang specializes in integrating Western medicine with Traditional Chinese Medicine. From 2015 to 2021, she held hospital privileges at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, where she provided direct inpatient care.

From 2012 to 2014, Dr. Zhang served as a research acupuncturist in Oregon for the Phase III clinical trial titled “Randomized Blinded Sham- and Waitlist-Controlled Trial of Acupuncture for Joint Symptoms Related to Aromatase Inhibitors in Women with Early Stage Breast Cancer,” led by Columbia University and funded by SWOG S1200.
